Hi Colecrane,

I was reviewing some of your edits while patrolling. I must say... I was very impressed! Thank you, and I hope you stick around.

Congratulations on Becoming a wikiHow Author

Congratulations! You have made your first handful of edits on wikiHow and are now a co-author of our shared how-to manual. Of the millions of people who read wikiHow every month, very few overcome their initial fear of participation to make it this far. I, and the other volunteer editors here hope you will continue editing and help us fulfill our mission of building a complete, high quality, multilingual how-to manual. Again, congratulations on becoming a wikiHow author!

Thanks for your edits on Get a Hot Body.

One someone reverts an edit you make, as a rule of thumb, we ask that the person whose edit was reverted not undo the revert. I left it this time, because you made a great edit there, and I'm not sure why it was reverted. Just letting you know for future reference. :) If you need anything, let me know!

Hey there! I noticed that you have been doing a great job editing on wikiHow. Have you considered becoming a New Article Booster? New Article Boosters are a select group of editors who improve new articles and offer incentive and encouragement to authors. You can read up on to learn more about the process.

Hey there, I was just wondering why you removed all of the attribution information here  ? Thanks =)

At 20:51, November 23, 2012

Hi there. The "Sources and Citations" section only needs the link for attribution. Shout-outs and descriptions of the creative commons license, while perfectly acceptable, act as clutter and offer a less streamlined final product. Your heart is in the right place, but it's superfluous. Hope this helps

When something is copied or used as a source as far as Creative Commons and the such, the license must be mentioned and attributed. I have been attributing websites as such for years on wikiHow and have never seen/heard people refer to extra words in the Sources section as "clutter" nor anything else.

At 21:28, November 23, 2012

When something is copied or used as a source, the link itself is sufficient. I'm not saying what you did was wrong; just saying that you went above and beyond what's necessary. You may continue to put in descriptions of the creative commons license in your attribution if you wish, but it's not necessary.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from, but even from itself, it does state,
"Licensees must credit the licensor, keep copyright notices intact on all copies of the work, and link to the license from copies of the work."
Meaning that the attribution information itself is required. You can't just "link" them and call it sufficient. This isn't what citing information is.

At 22:06, November 23, 2012

You copied the article verbatim from its original source. I thought the attribution was simply used as inspiration.

You should probably also mention in the introduction that the article is taken directly from a different source. As a general rule, it's nice to avoid copying whole articles verbatim from other sources, even if they are licensed under CC.

I agree with you concerning the "avoid copying" part, as anyone can create an article doing so. However, if you thoroughly read through the different kinds of CC licenses, , anyone can redistribute, modify, build upon it, etc as long as they are cited with the correct standard procedure. The introduction mention isn't necessary because you're already attributing/citing them in the Citation section.

My name is Louise and I am a social science student currently undertaking a study on the experience of active wikiHow users for my master's thesis.

I found your profile by looking at the recent edits on the homepage and I was wondering if you would be willing to fill in a short, anonymous questionaire?

Many thanks,

Thanks for your edits on Throw a Football. You are welcome to leave the present edit, but I seriously suggest copyediting it and checking the accuracy.

At 00:51, 4 October 2013

The edit suggests that a lot has changed since I learned to throw a football, but I suspect that the descriptive language is inaccurate, as in describing the arm motion of throwing, or else he is writing at a level more aimed at professional q-b's, and the spacing/grammar appeared to have problems, but my eyesight may be an issue there. An article written over the head of a reader is fairly worthless to a beginner, at any rate.

Similarly, the edit to Make Biodiesel may improve the technical attribs of the content, but it isn't likely to remotely resemble what a person reading the article would expect to follow. I have sat in college chemistry classes, actually passing them, and I have made basic biodiesel succesfully with the original content of the page, so my leaning was to revert that edit, as well. It is a matter of whether we are providing content useful and useable to a high level target readership, or readers who simply want to learn the basic knowledge needed to achieve their goal with limit resources and investment.

I think you can understand that I lean toward the latter.

You did most of the edits on the Bunsen burner article didn't you. I sent thumbs to another editor, then saw it was four edit grouped that I had patrolled. I was on my way to look at the history and got side-tracked by messaging. Anyway, thank you for the thumbs up. It was just a bit of clean-up after a pretty extensive edit. It is hard to get it 100% on a single pass.

At 07:14, 6 March 2014

Hey Colecrane,

I forgot all about that article, the matter (very sure you understand) is pretty simple, it would just take a bit of time formatting it all and replacing text so I forgot about it. You can do it, if you'd like.

At 21:26, 15 March 2014

At 22:58, 7 May 2014

Sorry for reply late There were few things I found that could be changed about the intro a. Its length. b. Another was that it gives a sub-conscious gist of being personal rather than written to introduce the article to the majority C. Plus it feels that it was somewhat written with a angry state of mind. Which is totally understandable since articles on wikihow are written by people on the basis of their personal experiences.

Thats what I think. Of course thanks for asking should have mentioned it in the comment section

Hi, What issue do you see with Binfer?

At 23:31, 12 June 2014

Binfer was listed on the article since several years and users have found it a useful and safe tool for direct file transfers. It was marked it as "Binfer is unsafe software", by Jfisher446, without providing any explanation or facts.

Binfer is as safe as any other software listed on that page. Unless Jfisher446 can substantiate the comment with facts I request that Binfer be added back and not removed.

Btw, it has been reviewed and deemed safe by 1. 2. . Thanks.

At 16:44, 23 June 2014

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback!

At 17:46, 29 July 2014

No worries. I try to stick to topics I'm comfortable with, so I watch the pages that I can easily edit and keep clean - it's just something that I often see people confusing - a VIN Check (vs databases) and the history reports.

I'll keep an eye on that and a few other of the articles, and hope to contribute a bit more as well with new articles eventually.

Thanks for the feedback, and I'll try to keep an eye on the discussion page(s) as well, since I totally missed the messages that were being left there.

If you are referencing this edit:

It was purely a judgement call but I chose the article that was written in an active tense and followed a bit more closely to the wikiHow format. As you are an admin, I know you are aware of wikiHow formatting. The earlier article was the better choice based on tense and formatting.

Hi John,

Wow. I'm very impressed by the edits to Survive an Emotional Storm (from . Thanks to you (whoever made this wonderful expansion!), the article is a masterpiece. In fact, I think it's worthy of featuring! You and Carrie are doing a great job with these writers...big kudos.

We haven't talked in a while! How have you been? :)

At 01:43, Mar 26, 2015

Hehe! Well, I'm definitely busy with a lot of...boosting! Boosting is now my go-to activity and I try to make sure I do at least a little bit every day (usually a lot!). It's been so ever since the launched a few weeks ago. There has been so much going on in real life, though -- in a somewhat stressful way, but in an energizing way as well!

I agree, Carrie is awesome and I've seen a lot of her work myself! I guess I could call her an "editing fellow manager"? ;)

Actually, I got chosen for a poetry competition last week -- so I'm doing my best to practice as well as I can, but the actual performance is tomorrow. It was great to get my chance because I love writing (and that's why I donate my writing to wikiHow!).

I'm glad you merged the ridiculous title Pacify an Angry Fanatic with the angry person article. I rewrote the fanatic mess about 4 days ago, trying to make sense of it, but the very concept was supremely nonsensical ("pacify an angry champion" would be just as good... lol)!

I undid the work of Seymour Edits on my article Understand the Male Ego because he deleted every single thing I wrote and put in a bunch of unhelpful social identity theory. I recommended to him that if people want to Understand the Social Construction of Gender, he can put his ideas there.

At 13:55, Jun 20, 2015

I'm confused about why articles I've written, based on years of expertise, are being edited in a way that removes all my content instead of expanding on it. Seems contradictory to the premise of wikiHow. And like my time is being wasted. I've been trying to recruit other subject matter experts to contribute but cannot ask them to waste their time. How can we work more collaboratively? Ref articles How to Learn Faster, How to Change Your Perpsective, and How to Teach.

Seymour Edits (SE) did many superficial edits . The rewrite did show a lot of research but had many generalizations. So it lacked meatiness, with many boney words. SE leaned on too many ambiguous words. It needed more explanatory phrases.

Avoiding generalities would cure many of the glaring problems... Some specifics of what was/were:

  • "the unexpected???" -- (like what?),
  • "things, things, things,???" -- (referred to repeatedly),

I could list many more such trivial words...
