How to Make Spicy Hamburger Helper
1 1.2 pounds ground turkey
1 ½ cup of water
3 tablespoons of chili powder
2 tablespoons of garlic salt
2 tablespoons of garlic powder
2 tablespoons of black pepper
1 1/16 cup of oil
1 small chunk of butter
Hamburger Helper package with sauce
Grease the pan with oil and butter.Place the pan over the stove top over medium to mid-high heat, and add the oil into the pan along with the butter.
- This stops the ground turkey from sticking to the pan and adds a bit of a buttery taste.
Add the ground turkey to the pan.Break it up by hand or with a spoon or spatula. Let it cook for about 1 minute.
Season the turkey.Add 1 tablespoon each of chili powder, garlic powder, garlic salt, and black pepper. Mix it all up.
Drain a little of the grease from the ground turkey.To do this, put a lid on the pan then shift it over some to create a gap. Tilt the pan over to pour the excess grease into a heat-proof container; allow it to cool down so you an dispose of in the garbage later.
Add the 1 ½ cups of water and the sauce mix.Combine those ingredients in the pan and stir well with the ground turkey.
Season with more chili powder.Add 1 more tablespoon of chili powder.
Heat and let the mixture come to a boil.Put a lid on the pan and keep on medium to mid-high heat for 10 minutes.
- Stir it occasionally to keep it from sticking.
Turn the heat down.After the 10 minutes are done, let the Hamburger Helper simmer by turning the heat down to low or medium temperature.
Season the turkey again.Add the remaining 1 tablespoon each of garlic salt, garlic powder, chili powder and black pepper. Stir well.
Let the mixture simmer for 4 minutes on medium with the lid on.
- Stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the pan.
Taste the Hamburger Helper.Taste the turkey to make sure your balance of seasonings is right. Add more if needed.
Remove from the heat.Turn the stove top off and serve it up.
