Anna Faris Says She’s Not Sure If She Still Believes in Marriage
Anna Faris Doesn’t Know If She Believes in Marriage After Her Divorce from Chris Pratt
Anna Faris, romcom queen, is a romantic — but she's not exactly sold on the idea of marriage.
TheMomstar recently sat down as a guest on Dax Shepard's newArmchair Expertpodcast and had a candid chat about her feelings on shopping malls, parenting, and the gender wage gape. But when they cracked open a few cans of Red Bull, Faris got real about her take on matrimony, especially after her split from Chris Pratt last August after eight long years of marriage.
"We had an unbelievable marriage and we have a great friendship now," Faris said of Pratt. "And we love our son [Jack] to death, and I'm really proud of that, because I'm not sure I did that well the first time."
Before Pratt, Faris was previously married to actor Ben Indra for four years from 2004 to 2008. So after two weddingsandtwo divorces, it's easy to see how she can question the whole idea of marriage.
"I need to figure out what the purpose is," she told Shepard. "Like is it safety for your children? Is it convention? Is it so other people respect your relationship more? For me, I'm just not quite sure where it fits, especially when it feels so easy, of course, to get married and then there's the untangling in terms of like the state being involved."
The actress goes on to explain that she never romanticized the idea of marriage, and that she had a harder time explaining her engagement to Indra to her parents than she did telling them about their breakup, but she was still embarrassed by it nonetheless.
And this isn't the first time Faris has been pretty outspoken about her views on the topic. She wrote about her dislike of marriage and weddings in her memoirUnqualified.
"The modern rituals of weddings — the big surprise proposal, the bridal party, the show of it all — they make me uncomfortable," she wrote. "I know. I'm a buzz kill. But a lot of women question those out dated rituals, right? How can you not?"
But despite her skepticism on marriage, Faris isn't closed off to love.
