Eating right and exercising seem like such straightforward concepts to understand and execute, but they sound a lot easier than they actually are. It takes hard work and a ton of determination to lose weight and reach the new you. Part of the battle is reminding yourself that this all began for a reason because, when the going gets tough, we often forget why we started. The answer may be in the results of a new study that proved taking photos of yourself during a weight loss program can be the most gratifying way to keep on truckin' toward your goal.

A recent study from a nutrition clinic in Barranquilla, Colombia, analyzed the motivation levels of patients on weight loss programs, and was conducted by medical professional Isaac Elias Kuzmar Daza, and a PhD student at the Universidad de Alicante. Each week, the participants' progress were tracked via their body mass index, weight-to-hip ratio, food and exercise diaries, and full body photographs. But those weekly photographs proved to be major factor in patients completing the full program; the majority of these patients were more interested in their photos than any underlying conditions like high cholesterol or a heart condition. Simply put: These photos were a visual confirmation that they were making headway toward their end goal. It sounds so obvious, and yet, how many of us are taking full-body, unfiltered and not-posed selfies each week?

When looking to lose weight, we sometimes forget thatweare our best motivation. In fact, 90 percent of the study's participants finished the program because of the photos, with a whopping 71.3 percent meeting their goal weight! So get snappy and try this weight loss secret for yourself. And when french fries start calling your name, look back at your older pics to see how far you've come—or if you've fallen off track—and remember those french fries won't be what will get you to your end goal.
